Aussie batsman Warner to play for St. Lucia

Australia explosive opening batsman David Warner will join the St Lucia Stars for the 2018 Hero Caribbean League (CPL).

Warner has played in Twenty20 tournaments around the world, but this will be his first appearance in the Hero CPL.

The former Aussie vice-captain was banned from international cricket by Australia following his role in a ball tampering incident vs South Africa earlier this year.

The last innings Warner had saw him score 109 in an ODI vs South Africa in 2016, but this will be his first visit to play Twenty20 cricket in the Caribbean since he represented Australia against the West Indies in March 2012.

A veteran of 243 Twenty20 matches, 70 of which were internationals, Warner brings a huge amount of experience to the Stars squad.

The St. Lucia Stars squad would be led by former West Indies captain Darren Sammy, who bowls off in August.

Meanwhile Guyana Amazon Warriors have appointed South African John Botha as their head coach and Guyana and West Indies A Team manager Rayon Griffith as his assistant coach.

Botha has previous coaching experience at the Pakistan Super League with Islamabad United and Multan Sultans.

Botha has also played at the Hero CPL, winning the title with Trinbago Knight Riders in 2015. He has represented South Africa in Tests, ODIs and T20s, claiming 126 wickets for his country.
