British High Commissioner to Guyana, Her Excellency Mrs. Jane Miller, OBE, and Dr. Robert Miller, on Thursday, April 21, celebrated ABMA Education UK’s contribution to capacity building, through training and certification to educate Guyanese.
The diplomat praised initiatives such as the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN), during a reception at her Bel Air Gardens Georgetown, residence, noting that the evening was celebrating two organizations, Nations University and ABMA. “It is a wonderful partnership between the British institution and the Guyana organization.”
Nations that partners with 13 organizations around the world, eight of which are British, said Mrs. Miller, is a huge privilege. “We are proud of the UK education initiative with Nations School of Business & Management, and you know the value of it as well.”
“It is a privilege to host this evening’s reception. ABMA is a very special organization that shares its values on diversity and inclusion in education, and the results that bridge education and employment, bringing change in people’s lives,” she said.
Mrs. Miller also applauded Minister of Social Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud, for her partnership with the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN) initiative, that empowers women in health services, and have facilitated a prosecutor’s course for police ranks. Thank you so much. I hope you use this evening for networking, she ended.
Dr. Vindhya Persaud, in her response, noting that since the WIIN program started, 2,170 participants have been certificated, in partnership with ABMA education UK.
“I’m sure you’re very happy to also hear when education yields great results, and tonight, we’re celebrating the journey those who have been involved on a path to further their education to enhance their skills, and to achieve something that is transformative in their lives, said Dr. Persaud, adding. “I’d like to sincerely say thank you to the entire Nations’ team and all those who would have worked with the ministry, through the Guyana Women’s Leadership Institute, (GWLI) the home of WIIN.”
She spoke of the many types of training being offered, such as an ICT program under the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, that offers hope for women who in many cases would not have had an opportunity to enter the arena of education and study. “That was the thinking when this program was conceptualized.”
“I wanted to remove that barrier to opportunity, you are becoming all that you wanted to be, and that obstacle that you may have had in your mind because you didn’t have a chance earlier in life, and so the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network, (WIIN) was born,” she shared.
ABNA’s Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Paul Roseveare and Compliance Officer, Dr. Shehrazade Emmambokus-Teuten, who were guests of honor at the reception, outlined the work of the organization that plays a major role in development of training programs in Guyana.
Deputy Police Commissioner ‘Operations’ Mr. Budhram applauded ABMA Education UK, and the WIIN leadership, noting that 30 Police Officers participated in the prosecutor’s course that was conducted through Nations University.
Institutions such as the Guyana Police Force (GPF) the Ministry of Health, and the Guyana Tourism Authority, all benefit from these programs.
Representatives from these institutions were present at the reception, in addition to graduates of the GPF, who made presentations, as part of the training they received.
The evening of excellence, hosted by the British High Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Protection’s WIIN programs, also hear presentation by CEO of Nations Dr. Dexter Phillips, and State Council, Chevy Devonish, program facilitator, of the GPF Prosecutor’s Course.
