West Indies Women wicketkeeper/batsman, Shemaine Campbelle, has been appointed captain of Guyana Women’s team for this year’s Regional Super50 Cup and T20 Blaze tournaments.
However, even with the experienced Campbelle on the team, Guyana will be without the services of the talented all-rounder Cherry-Ann Fraser, who is sidelined by injury, which will impact both their batting and bowling options.
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) recently announced the squad. Furthermore, the team will be guided by head coach Tremaine Smartt and assistant coach/manager Clive Grimmond.
Guyana will defend the T20 Blaze title and aim to win the Super50 trophy.
Meanwhile, their first match of the T20 Blaze will be played against the Windward Islands on Jan. 13 at Arnos Vale, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Campbelle will have support from off-spinning all-rounder Ashmini Munisar as her deputy, along with several other West Indies Women’s players: Shabika Gajnabi, Sheneta Grimmond, Realeanna Grimmond, Plaffianna Millington, and Mandy Mangru.
The GCB stated that preparations are underway to ensure a smooth build-up, emphasizing player readiness, strategic planning, and team cohesion.
“The GCB is committed to providing the team with the resources and preparation necessary to defend their T20 Blaze crown successfully while aiming to make a strong impact in the Super50 Championship.”
