The West Indies completed a series whitewash against Bangladesh in the third and final T20I match at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Bangladesh.

Romario Shepherd became the second West Indian to take a hat-trick in a T20I. At the same time, stand-in captain Roston Chase and Ackeem Auguste both struck half-centuries to lead the Windies to a tremendous five-wicket victory over the hosts.

Thanks to Shepherd’s impressive feat, the Windies limited Bangladesh to 151 in their 20 overs, despite opener Tanzid Hasan’s 89.

Chase and Auguste then joined forces in the eighth over following the dismissals of Alick Athanaze, Brandon King, and Amir Jangoo (34) with the score on 52/3.

They produced a 93-run partnership to carry the West Indies to 152 for five off 16.5 overs, to ensure they swept the three-match series.

Auguste, playing in just his fourth T20I, reached his maiden T20I half-century off 24 balls with a single off Nasum.

Chase wasn’t too far behind and eventually brought up his fifth T20I half-century off 28 balls by hitting Taskin for a single, as the West Indies strolled to 143 for three at the end of 15 overs.

But just when it looked like they would carry West Indies over the line, they were both dismissed by Hossain in the space of three balls.

Chase was bowled for 50, while Auguste was caught on the deep backward square boundary for the same score.

The Windies needed only eight runs from 27 balls for victory. Rovman Powell and Gudakesh Motie ensured there would be no further losses and carried their team across the finish line.

Hossain bagged 3-43 for Bangladesh.

Earlier, the West Indies’ bowlers performed quite well, with only Tanzid providing any real resistance.

Following the early losses of Parvez Hossain Emon for nine and captain Litton Das for six, Bangladesh recovered to 107 for two, courtesy the efforts of Tanzid and Saif Hassan.

Tanzid was dropped at 12 by Jason Holder off Shepherd’s bowling and brought up his half-century off 36 balls.

Holder dismissed Hassan for 23 while Tanzid struggled to find any willing partners, which saw them lose their last eight wickets for just 44 runs.

Shepherd played a big part in that collapse, taking the wicket of Nural Hasan, then dismissing Tanzid for 89 off 62 balls and Shoriful Islam in his final over.

Shepherd finished with 3-36 and ended the series with seven wickets. He was named Player-of-the-Series.

Khary Pierre (2-23) and Holder (2-32) also provided good support.
