With correspondence and photographs linked to President Barack Obama, the two-term history-making highest-public official worldwide, is highlighted in the legislative office of Assemblywoman Vivian Cook.
Cook, an independent-thinking highly-respected major supporter of Queens Library eases through her Albany, NY workspace, as Queens Library’s advocates lined her office and the area outside of her office. After greeting noticeable constituents, as she makes her way to her desk, Cook humbly asks the standing-room only group how she can serve them.
Queens Library, the largest library advocates at Library Legislative Day 2016, are not forgetful of Cook’s continuous contributions to Queens Library. Notably, Queens Library at Rochdale President Emily Banks expressed her gratitude to Assemblywoman Cook. Banks recognized Cook for acting as the library’s life boat and ushering in recent major construction at her Rochdale Library.
The gathering, representing Queens Library’’s more than 62 community libraries, are aware they are afforded a rare opportunity to meet with a public official and not a public official’s intern or other staff members. A priority for Queens Library is to receive full funding at the amount of $102.4 million.
On this annual Library Legislative Day, Queens Library is asking New York State for $17.2 million for the Adult Literacy Education (ALE) program. Through the New York State Education Department ALE sustains English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and High Schools Equivalency Preparation (HSE) classes.
Inclusive on this list is an after-school program built into the Queens Library’s STACKS curriculum. Of equal importance, is maintenance of Queens Library’s 1,900 computers where three million sessions were logged. Queens Library’s internet and computer training tend to be heading in the direction of President Obama’s agenda for internet accessibility for everybody.
According to Queens Library, “Libraries are the leading digital literacy educators in New York State and Queens Library is among the borough’s leading providers of free, job seeking information, workshops, online training and job preparation.”
