Jets look sharp in win over Dolphins

On an evening when linebacker Larry Grantham, running back Freeman McNeil, defensive end Gerry Philbin, and wide receiver Al Toon were inducted into the New York Jets Ring of Honor, during half time ceremonies, the Jets got out of their slump to the delight of the 70,000 fans, against the Miami Dolphins.

Now they take a 3-3 record to face another conference rival on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at MetLife Stadium.

The San Diego Chargers, who had a bye week, are 4-1 and on top of their division in the National Football League.

After starting the season at 2-0, the determined Jets got back to winning ways against a team that usually gives them trouble. But not this time around. The Dolphins are certainly not the team that they at one time fielded.

And for a cornerback to return an interception the length of the field for a 100-yard touchdown run has to be something special and it opened coach Rex Ryan’s eyes.

This is just what Darrelle Revis did! That was only his first of two interceptions in the game.

The veteran defensive player gave something that his teammates and coaching staff really wanted. Any time a team gets the ball in the red zone and turns it into a score is remarkable.

“We put together a great team effort,” Ryan said. “In addition we’re proud of our offensive line and protected our quarterback. We are moving forward. Now we are doing much better in the red zone. I think we can have an excellent offense.”

The Jets still have a lot of games to play to finish out the schedule. Three losses were frustrating. Overall, the players must stick together.
