Cricket West Indies President, Dr. Kishore Shallow, has strongly backed captain Shai Hope and the Men’s T20 team, calling their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign a turning point for Caribbean cricket.
Although the West Indies were eliminated by India at Eden Gardens, Shallow said the disappointment of missing out on the final should not overshadow the progress shown throughout the tournament. In an official statement, he described the campaign as evidence of a positive shift in the team’s direction and overall development.
The West Indies won five of their seven matches and successfully advanced to the Super 8 stage, demonstrating renewed consistency and resilience. Despite the heartbreaking exit, Shallow believes the performance signals the beginning of a resurgence for the regional side and provides a strong foundation for future success.
“Winning five of seven matches and advancing to the Super 8s is a testament to the preparation and commitment of this group,” Dr. Shallow stated. He noted that the campaign reflected a renewed sense of “growth, belief, and togetherness” within the squad.
The president emphasised that the team’s character stood out on the world stage. Despite intense pressure, the “Maroon Men” demonstrated strong determination and resilience, earning admiration and support throughout the Caribbean.
“Most encouraging was the spirit of resolve and fight displayed throughout the competition, a spirit that was needed more than ever,” Shallow said. “That determination and pride in representing the region strengthened confidence across the Caribbean and reminded us of the character of West Indies cricket.”
President Shallow also commended the backroom staff, highlighting the leadership of head coach Daren Sammy. He praised the technical team’s collective efforts, saying they have built a strong professional foundation for future international campaigns.
“Today, we are proud of our men in maroon and appreciative of the dedication of the backroom team,” he added.
Shallow confirmed that the organization is already looking toward the next cycle, with a focus on building even greater unity.
”We will regroup, we will work, and we will compete again with even greater unity and purpose,” he said, echoing the timeless regional anthem: “Rally Round the West Indies, now and forever.”
