Master Comic Learie Joseph in concert

Funnyman Learie Joseph, whose reputation as one of the Caribbean’s premier exponents of sketch comedy continues to hold firm, will make his first New York appearance in four years when he is featured in concert at Brooklyn’s Tropical Paradise Ballroom Saturday evening July 13 for one performance only. The show starts at 8:30 p.m.; doors open at 7:00 p.m.

The stable of characters Joseph has rolled out over the years for sketches he writes have consistently scored big with audiences in his native Trinidad and Tobago as well as elsewhere in the Caribbean and in North America. Joseph’s portrayals of everything from cunningly inquisitive schoolboy, to cop on the beat, to spurned lover never fails to leave his fans in stitches. His turns on stage for well-nigh two decades have solidified his ranking as one of the top-flight stars of Caribbean comedy.

Since his last sold-out performance in New York in 2009, Joseph has done dozens of shows, all of them sold out, at venues throughout Trinidad and Tobago. A regular troupe of seasoned players appears with Joseph in his laugh-a-minute skits. He promises a full serving of “my best stuff” for the upcoming show.

The July 13 presentation of Learie Joseph in Concert will be followed by an after-party featuring deejay music by Cool Connection. Tropical Paradise Ballroom is located at 1367 Utica Avenue (bet. Farragut & Foster). The phone number for information is 917-447-2323. The event is a production of Unique Caribbean Promotions.
