Matthews, Fletcher earn ICC Player of the Month nods for June

Hayley Matthews and Afy Fletcher from the West Indies Women’s Cricket team, along with South African opener Tazmin Brits, have been nominated for the June ICC Women’s Player of the Month award.

Matthews and Fletcher’s nominations came after impressive performances in their recently concluded series against South Africa.

Matthews played a crucial role in leading the West Indies Women to a 2-1 T201 series win over South Africa last month, their first T20I series win over South Africa Women in 12 years.

Scoring 147 runs at an average of 73.50 and a strike rate of 120.49, while taking two wickets. Matthews also performed quite well in the ODI series, scoring 104 runs at an average of 34.66 and taking four wickets.

Afy Fletcher, a leg spinner for West Indies Women, excelled in the T201 and ODI series, taking the most wickets and contributing with the ball and bat.

She captured nine wickets in the ODIs at an economy of 5.53 and an average of 24, while claiming five wickets in the T20Is at an average of 16.20 and an economy of 6.75.

Meanwhile, Tazmin Brits stood out in the ODI series, scoring 184 runs at an average of 61.33 across the three-match series and was named the Player-of-the-Series.

She continued her strong performance in the T201 matches, earning the Player-of-the-Match award for her impressive batting when she smashed an unbeaten 98 runs. She ended with 132 runs in the series at an average of 66 and a strike rate of 122.22.
