US Olympian Noah Lyles, through his Lyles Brothers Sports Foundation, has made a generous donation of essential supplies to hurricane victims in Georges Valley, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, the hometown of his fiancée and fellow track athlete Junelle Bromfield.

Lyles partnered with retired Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell, who, along with his wife Alyshia and others, packed and distributed supplies that included groceries and toiletries.

“People are really suffering, as much as I can help, I will help,” Powell said in a video of the handover shared to his social media pages.

“The more people who come together, the more people we can feed,” Powell added.

Their collective effort aimed to bring comfort and hope to residents whose lives had been turned upside down by the hurricane.

World 110m hurdles silver medalist Orlando Bennett joined in the initiative and also encouraged others to assist in the hurricane relief efforts if possible.

Bromfield, a former student-athlete of St. Elizabeth Technical High School, said via a video message that she wanted to pay it forward to her hometown after seeing the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa — a Category 5 storm that left a trail of destruction in St. Elizabeth and surrounding parishes.

“The community was always helping me out, whether it was in high school to go to Penn Relays, they raised money, taking me to school for free… So I really wanted to give back,” Bromfield said.
