Panamanians to stage Easter cantata

Members of the Brooklyn-based Day of Independence Committee of Panamanians New York organization are gearing to present “The End of Times…Contact of a Soul” a dramatic Easter cantata.

Slated for six showcases until Easter, two weekend performances include a matinee at 1 pm and an evening engagement at 7 pm beginning March 24.

A benefit performance on March 24 will begin at 7 pm and is a fundraiser to benefit the Oct. 6 – pride of the isthmus parade which begins at Bergen and Franklin each year and ends at Classon and Eastern Parkway, across from the Brooklyn Museum.

There will be no matinee on Palm Sunday.

All showcases will be held at Mt. Zion Tabernacle, 182 Gates Ave. in Brooklyn.

DICPNY Vice President Enriques Small along with four associates wrote the musical production and it will be presented in association with Misioneros Production

Featuring a cast of 40, the two-hour 10 minute presentation focuses on a preacher who finds himself on death row amidst “demons and evil spirit and reveals the complexities of life in the real world.”

According to Small, the dramatic presentation will include singing and choreographed dancing.

“Appropriate for the entire family,” as in previous cantatas showcased throughout 21 years they are “told through acting, singing and dancing, that reveals the story of Jesus through the lives of normal people.”

Each year, the group delivers an original musical production in order to conform to the organization’s mission of “working arduously to create programs for the educational growth and development of our community.”

The chorale composition will integrate musical renditions, solo and ensemble presentations as well as instrumental renditions.

The sacred event is expected to attract patriots, Christians and presented as a preview to the holiest Christian day of the year and offers an artistic, religious sacrament during the 40 days of Lent leading up to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
