Heavy showers forced the first two matches of this year’s CG United Super50 Cup at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in T&T to be abandoned, resulting in no results for both games.
Only 5.1 overs were played before rain stopped the match between Barbados Pride and Trinidad and Tobago Red Force. Barbados was at 48 runs without loss at the time.
Captain Kyle Mayers was unbeaten on 24, while Leniko Boucher finished on 21 not out.
At Queen’s Park Oval in T&T, Guyana Harpy Eagles were building a strong total against Jamaica Scorpions, but rain ended that match too.
The Harpy Eagles were 287 for six after 47 overs, with half-centuries from Kevlon Anderson, who made 83, Raymond Perez, who scored 61, and Matthew Nandu, who scored 54.
Brad Barnes (2-45) and Marquino Mindley (2-51) were the best bowlers for the Scorpions.
Magnificent Jordan fires Pride to comprehensive win over Hurricanes
Sensational fast bowling from Akeem Jordan helped the Barbados Pride to a seven-wicket victory over the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in their CG United Super 50 Cup encounter at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad.
Jordan bagged 5-29 from six overs to first restrict the Hurricanes to 138 in 25.1 overs. Zachary McCaskie and captain Kyle Mayers then produced half-centuries to carry Pride across the finish with ease at 139 for three.
Mayers won the toss and sent in the Hurricanes, with just three runs on the board in the second over, Jordan shattered the stumps of opener Kofi James for a first-ball duck.
Four runs later, Jordan had Carlon Bowen-Tuckett caught by Mayers for four, to leave the Hurricanes in trouble very early.
The Hurricanes reached only 12 runs before losing their next four wickets for just two more runs.
Left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop picked up the scalp of captain Karima Gore, who was caught for two.
Jordan then bowled Tyrone Williams for a duck, before Bishop picked up his second and third wickets in the fifth over when he had opener Mykyle Louis caught for four and Jewel Andrew caught for a duck.
In deep trouble now on just 14 for 6, a much-needed partnership from Jahmar Hamilton and Nathan Edwards helped the Hurricanes over the 100-run mark.
Edward got to 49 after facing 39 balls with 10 fours, but was bowled by Javed Leacock soon after. Hamilton reached 45 in 51 balls and was the last wicket to fall with the paltry score of 138.
Chasing 138, the Pride lost opener Leniko Boucher for nine runs at 19 for one, but the target was not enough for the Hurricanes to defend.
Skipper Mayers and McCaskie put on a 111-run second-wicket partnership to keep the runs flowing. Mayers got to 55 before he was caught off Edward.
Five runs later, Edward struck again, as McCaskie dismissed on 60 from 59 balls with five fours and two sixes.
Kraigg Brathwaite, along with Kevin Wickham, scored three and four respectively to see the Pride over the line without further loss, at 138 for 3 in 23.3 overs.
