Another unimpressive batting performance from the West Indies as they were bowled out for just 143 in their first innings on the second day of the third Test against Australia at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

The West Indies did well with the ball on day one as they bowled out Australia for 225 after the visitors decided to bat first. However, resuming from their overnight score of 16 for 1, the West Indies batsmen again seemed incapable and fell 82 runs short.

West Indies reach 73 for 3 at the tea break after the overnight pair of Brandon King (14) and captain Roston Chase (18) were dismissed.

King was trapped lbw by Josh Hazlewood (2 for 32), with Chase undone by a sharp, short ball from Aussie Captain Pat Cummins (2 for 24), to be caught at first slip by Usman Khawaja.

The opening pair of John Campbell and Mikyle Louis took the West Indies into the tea interval. Both batsmen could not open the batting on day one after receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the day’s play.

Campbell and Louis’ partnership was brief, and the other batsmen didn’t show any resistance as the Windies lost their remaining seven wickets in 20.1 overs.

Scott Boland (three for 34) had Campbell (36) trapped lbw to leave the Windies on 82 for 4, and soon after they slipped to 95 for 5 when a delivery off Hazlewood bowled Louis (seven).

White-ball captain Shai Hope hit three fours in an innings of 23, but was the sixth batsman to be dismissed when he was bowled through bat and pad by Boland as the West Indies slumped to 124.

Things didn’t improve for the West Indies as they lost their last 4 wickets for just 19 runs. Alzarri Joseph was dismissed for just 2, Justin Greaves for 18, Jomel Warrican went for a duck, while Shamar Joseph was dismissed for 8, all in quick succession.

The West Indies team trailed Australia 2-0 in the three-match series and would need another strong bowling effort and an even stronger batting display in the second innings to get a consolation win.

The Aussies began their second innings in the post-dinner session to add a considerable amount to their 82-run lead.
