Showcasing Guyanese products at GuyExpo 2013

More than 460 exhibitors are expected to participate in GuyExpo 2013, Guyana’s premiere trade and investment exposition, which will be staged from Oct. 3 – 6 at the Sophia Exhibition Site, under the theme ‘Advancing Productivity through Innovation, Modernisation and Expansion.’

GuyExpo is undertaken as a partnership among the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, GO-INVEST and the private sector; while exhibitors, franchise holders, game operators and entertainers play a major role in the overall success of the event.

This year marks the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association’s 50th Anniversary, of vigorously promoting manufacturing in Guyana; in commemoration of this, GMSA is indeed proud to be partnering with government for the staging of this internationally renowned activity.

Following the initiation of this event in 1995, GuyExpo has become the main conduit for showcasing Guyanese products and services to both local and international communities.

The planning committee remains confident that the intended renewed focus this year on investment, promotion, partnerships and diversification of input resources will definitely result in increased productivity, innovation, modernisation and expansion of the production base for both the traditional and emerging sectors, which will ultimately enhance and sustain the growth of our economy.

This year’s theme is consistent with Guyana’s successful macro-economic strategy, prudent policy implementation and continuing efforts to expand opportunities for sustainable investments.

Given this fact, the GuyExpo Planning Committee and Secretariat under the stewardship of Tourism Minister Irfaan Ali, M.P. supported by Co-chairman Derrick Cummings, the planning committee and Guyana Manufacturing Services Association have established a plan of action which will result in GuyExpo 2013 being one of the best ever.

What became an annual event in 2004, under the chairmanship of Keith Burrowes, is now the longest sustained exhibition in the Caribbean, in that year, the organizers took cognizance of the growth and interdependence of international trade and opened the exhibition to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and other regional exhibitors; this year more than 12 international companies have conformed their participation including Argentina, Brazil, China, French Guiana, Grenada, India, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom and the United States.

GuyExpo has now morphed a national event, which offers business associates the opportunity to meet, network, and negotiate with international companies and establishments, as well as showcase their skills, talents and creative work, annually.
