St. Kitts to hosts CPL finals

St. Kitts will host the finals of this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

CEO of CPLT20 Damien O’Donohoe announced that it was unlikely that the finals would be played in Trinidad after negotiations failed with the Trinidad and Tobago government.

Sources say Trinidad and Tobago could not afford the US$1 million at a time when there is a shortage of foreign exchange.

It is understood that the government wanted to pay in T&T currency, which the organizers rejected.

Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts, Shawn Richards has confirmed that his government is close to signing the agreement for the finals to take place in his country.

St. Kitts hosted the finals in 2014. The other two finals were held in Trinidad in 2013 and 2015.

The 2016 edition got underway in Trinidad last week with defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders against the St. Lucia Zouks at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain. The Zouks defeated the Trinbago Knight Riders in the first match.
