writers coalition: The 10th Anniversary Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival will present a free outdoor reading at 2:00 p.m., featuring young writers (6-18 years) reading alongside an electrifying line up of Brooklyn-based writers, headlined by Sapphire (author of PUSH). The master of ceremonies will be Gaylord Fields, music journalist and community radio deejay at WFMU-FM. This unique event brings several generations of writers together to build on the literary traditions of the neighborhoods surrounding Fort Greene Park. Afterwards, the public is invited to Greenlight Bookstore (located at 686 Fulton St.) for an after-party where they can mingle with the day’s readers.

passport application center: Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) has launched a second Passport Application Center at the Kings Highway Library providing a convenient facility for Brooklyn residents and new immigrants to apply for passports. Donations: St. Robert Bellarmine Church is joining efforts with the Diocese of Trenton to bring relief to victims in the hardest hit areas.
