  • Views of the 9/11 Memorial in the financial district of lower Manhattan, New York at the site of World Trade Center. This location is considered ground zero.... the site of the former Twin Towers in Lower Manhattan. The memorial opened on September 11th 2011 and was literally constructed on the footprint of the Twin Towers. There is also a museum adjacent to the memorial. The architect, Michale Arad says that the pools of this monument are supposed to represent "the absence made visible" from this tragic event. The water flows, into the pools, but they can never be filled. the pools are a place of tranquility away from the surrounding noise of the city. At the bottom of the pool are some remaining artifacts from the destruction of the towers. The names of all of the victims from 2001 and 1993 are inscribed on bronze parapets surrounding the pools. The memorial is visited by a never ending stream of visitors from around the world.Op-Ed | Missing voices from NYC’s post-9/11 fallen service member memorial
