WIPA congratulates West Indies team

The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) has congratulated the West Indies team over their comprehensive victory over Zimbabwe in each of the three series played, ending with the just concluded secondnd Test in Dominica.

President of WIPA Wavell Hinds said, “we want to recognize the leadership of both Darren Sammy, who was in charge for the T20s and Tests and Dwayne Bravo, who was the skipper for the One-Day Internationals. They both exhibited excellent stewardship of their charges,”

“Everyone knows that cricket is a team sport, but teams are made up of individuals and there were some outstanding performances throughout the home series.

“We have to acknowledge the special achievements of Shane Shillingford, Man of the Test Series, for setting a West Indian record of 19 wickets in a two Test series. Shiv Chanderpaul just keeps rolling along and scored his 28th Test century, while Chris Gayle notched his 15th. There were excellent ODI centuries from Johnson Charles, Darren Bravo and Ronnie Sarwan, while Lendl Simmons was voted Man of the Twenty20 Series for his excellent batting,” the WIPA president said.

Noting that winning was habit forming, Hinds also congratulated Sammy and his men for winning six (6) strait Test matches, a feat no West Indian team has accomplished since 1988 when they won seven straight against England and Australia.
