Women’s History Month – Leading the change, Women Shaping a Sustainable Future: Events to attend

Themed, Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future” 2026, will highlight women who are driving, rebuilding, and reimagining systems for a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable future across environmental, economic, and social sectors.
“By understanding the achievements, struggles, and contributions of women through history, we gain a fuller, more accurate, and more inclusive understanding of our collective past,’ stated former First Lady of the United States, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State. Hillary Clinton.
With this focus in place, celebrations will empower women at several events across the boroughs, commencing with a March 1 Arts event featuring a free community day, and National Museum Women Alliance NMWA Unframed: illuminate the Night on March 6.
Additionally, Smithsonian curator Dr. Krystal Klingenberg presents an all-Black female Jazz Showcase at the Carpenter’s Shop, Snug Harbor, in Staten Island, on March 4 at 6 p.m. The event marks International Women’s Day, focusing on the women who shaped America’s jazz sound.
Celebrating Women’s History Month, NYU will host a conversation on March 5 about women who have spearheaded change in society and how they can become effective change-makers of the future. The gathering will convene at NYU Steinhardt in the Third Floor Press Hall.
The free event will run from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the campus’s 82 Washington Square East, New York.
Women’s History Month Celebration -Gender Equity March & Resource Fair will take place on
March 4, from noon to 2:30 p.m., in the Student Activities Center Outdoor Plaza and Ballroom, at Stoneybrook University.
This event centers the 2026 Women’s History Month theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” and highlights collective action, leadership, and community engagement. The program will begin with a keynote address by Chanel Lopez, Deputy Director of LGBTQ+ Affairs for the NYS Executive Chamber under Governor Kathy Hochul.
Following the keynote, participants are invited to take part in a Gender Equity March, with a route beginning at the SAC Plaza, continuing to the fountains, and returning to the SAC. From 1 – 2:30 p.m., attendees can explore a Resource Fair in SAC Ballroom A, featuring campus departments, student organizations, and community partners whose work aligns with this year’s theme.
The resource fair will also include an interactive activity designed to deepen engagement with the theme, with the opportunity to win a giveaway item. All are encouraged to attend, learn, and take part in advancing gender equity and sustainability together.

The Brooklyn Museum will host First Saturday on March 7, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., to celebrate Women’s History Month and the culture-shaping contributions of women and gender-nonconforming artists.

March’s lineup reimagines what’s possible through music, film, dancing, and literature that envision a more liberated world. First Saturdays are free. RSVP.

Three events will take place in NYC Parks: the Women’s Month Walk (Manhattan), History Women of Central Park – Tour on March 17, and the Hart Island Women’s History Tour (Bronx) on March 22.
Throughout the month, the museum offers special events alongside its exhibitions targeting families, teens, and more.
I Am She 2026: Women’s History Month Celebration – Her Story in the Making, being hosted by the historic Weeksville Heritage Center, & Community Conversation and Collaboration, INC.  This Women’s History Month celebration will bring together women of every ethnicity, culture, faith, and profession for a powerful night of recognition, unity, and joy.
The March 17 event will be held at Weeksville Heritage Center, 158 Buffalo Avenue, Brooklyn, from 6pm to 9pm.  Doors open at 5pm. Business or business-formal attire recommended; RSVP required by March 13th. Limited seating available.
A dynamic awards celebration honoring impactful women, community leaders, business professionals, clergy, creatives, and change-makers, will have meaningful connections and networking, Music, energy, and celebration.
The NYC Men Teach Women’s Herstory Month Event 2026 will be hosted by Nathaniel Smith, Director of MYC Men Tech at CUNY Queens College, City University of New York.
This year’s event features the organization’s Manager, Vincent Deas, as Master of Ceremonies, and special Guests Lynae Vanee, Blair Imani, Dr. Patrice Fenton, and Lyrical Faith. The Celebration will be held on campus at 65-30 Kissena Blvd., Queens.
Acclaimed author and illustrator Oliver Jeffers’ exhibition “Life At Sea” is featured for a special World Water Day workshop on Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22. Representatives from the Pacific Island Film Festival, National Geographic, and the Laru Beya Collective will lead the family-friendly workshops.
On Sunday, March 15, the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra performs on the museum’s third floor from 2 to 4 p.m. Other events include a poetry workshop, sketch club, and teen night.
Sophia Galaté will perform “Baby’s All Right at 146 Broadway, Brooklyn, on March 17, at 8:00pm.

The New York Women’s Foundation will host a Breakfast on May 13, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The Celebrating Women Breakfast embodies the spirit, strength, and resilience of The New York Women’s Foundation community.
It is an inclusive event that brings together thousands of guests from all walks of life to celebrate and uplift shared achievements. The group creates a better future for all women, girls, and gender-expansive people. The event will be held at the New York Marriott Marquis.
The Caribbean American Poetry Association will celebrate World Poetry Day on March 21, at 7 p.m., to honor World Poetry Day and Women’s History Month.
NESCO designated March 21 as World Poetry Day to support linguistic diversity and provide a platform for various poetic expressions. In honor of this mission, CAPA invites poets and guests to share poems in any of the languages or dialects spoken across the Caribbean—including English, Spanish, French, Dutch, Patois, Creole, Papiamento, and others.
The inspirational theme for this event is: “Individually we are one drop, together we are an ocean.”
