Keacy Carty’s consecutive centuries propelled West Indies to a dominant 197-run win over Ireland in the third and final match at Clontarf in Ireland, using the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method.
From his previous knock of 102 in the rained-out match, Carty struck a magnificent 170 runs as West Indies posted an astonishing 385 for seven off their 50 overs, their second-highest total ever in the format.
After the target was reduced to 363 in 46 overs due to excessive rain, fast bowler Jayden Seales ran through Ireland’s top order, limiting them to 165 off 29.5 overs.
The result helped the West Indies tie the three-match series 1-1 after Ireland won the opening match by 124 runs.
Carty became the 14th West Indian to record a score of 150 or more in an ODI.
West Indies lost openers Brandon King and Evin Lewis early, scoring only 31 for 2, but Carty and skipper Hope came in to revive the innings.
The pair added 137 runs for the third wicket, which helped to transform the match as Hope perished for a run-a-ball 75, caught on the boundary off McBrine. He hit nine fours and two sixes, leaving the score 168 for 3 in the 30th over.
Carty, named Player of the Match and Player of the Series, joined new batsman Amir Jangoo to add 78 runs in 11 overs.
There were two stoppages for rain thereafter, but Carty was determined and reached his century soon after by driving spinner Harry Tector for 4.
Jangoo lost his wicket after scoring 22 to leave the score 246 for 4 in the 41st over.
Justin Greaves then came to the crease, finding the boundary with ease.
Carty smashed Dockrell for 2 sixes and 4 off consecutive overs to reach 150 off 134 balls, with a single off McCarthy soon after.
Carty, who was bowled off a no-ball when he was 150, was eventually bowled by McCarthy after facing 142 balls and hitting 15 fours and eight sixes.
Thanks to Carty’s innings, the West Indies belted 144 runs from the last 10 overs, with Greaves smacking 50 off 23 balls.
In reply, Ireland had no real performance as Seales grabbed the wickets of Andy Balbirnie, captain Paul Stirling, and Harry Tector to leave them 40 for three in the eighth over.
Cade Carmichael top scored with 48, but the home side was no threat at all, and to make things worse, they were without two batters Jordan Neill and Josh Little, who were injured while fielding.
Seales ended with figures of 3-26 from 5.5 overs.
