New York-based, Jamaican-born Cecil B The Artist says a cover of Luciano’s “Over The Hills” is scheduled for release this month.
Cecil B said he and producer Ricky Myrie have been crafting songs in multiple recording sessions in New York for the past year. One of the tracks from those collaborations, “This Love,” was released in February.
Cecil B told Caribbean Life on Monday, May 12, that both songs will be on his debut album, which is expected to be out late this year.
“We have put in the work, and I’m very excited about the sound- the way it came out,” he said. “Ricky is very detailed in his work, very particular about keys and all of that, and things came out beautiful.”
Growing up in St. Mary, Jamaica, Cecil B. The Artist, the son of a shoemaker, watched his father meticulously repair many footwear.
He said that attention to detail has “a lifelong impact” on him as a singer/musician and airbrush artist.
The self-taught bass guitarist said he played in several bands in Jamaica and New York.
While active on the stage, Cecil B The Artist said his recording career has been “sporadic,” with “This Love” only his second released single in 13 years. In 2012, he recorded his first song, “Too Much Violence In The Streets.”
“My music is really reaching out to everyone, no matter what age group you are,” Cecil B said. “It’s about the message, about upliftment, encouragement, love, and understanding…progress.”
