West Indies superstar Twenty20 opening batsman, Chris Gayle has been blanked in the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft, but Trinidadian brothers Dwayne and Darren Bravo have both landed contracts for the third edition of the tournament scheduled for the first quarter of 2018.

The 38-year-old Jamaican, one of the most sought-after names on the Twenty20 international circuit, was one of 308 overseas players up for grabs but was by-passed by the six franchises, in perhaps the biggest surprise of the auction.

A franchisee told Wisden India that Gayle’s partial availability for the PSL couple with his poor form in the last Indian Premier League (IPL) had made him an unattractive option.

He said although Gayle is partially available, even if he was available he would not have been picked because he has no more the “Gayle force” he once was.

Gayle had poor run of form in the ILP managing just 103 runs from five innings in the 2016 edition and l60 runs from nine outings last year. He also showed little form for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL where he scored 227 runs from l0 matches with just two half centuries.

He has scored 10, 000 runs in Twenty20s with a highest score — an unbeaten 175 — and the most centuries with 18.
