The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is organizing a health and wellness day on July 20 at the UWI Usain Bolt Track and Field in Barbados, focusing on promoting holistic health through fitness, education, and community engagement.
The event will feature various activities including physical exercises, health screenings, nutrition demonstrations, and entertainment to cater to different interests. CPL’s fitness ambassador Spinny will lead workouts, and there will be appearances by Barbados Royals players and CPL mascots to engage with the attendees.
The health and wellness day is a part of CPL’s commitment to prioritizing the health and wellbeing of people across the Caribbean region. They aim to collaborate with organizations and individuals to encourage small steps towards healthier living for everyone.
Barbados Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kenneth George emphasized on the importance of collaboration in addressing health challenges, saying; “Community engagement fosters stronger relationships with the public, leading to increased trust and compliance with healthy behaviours. It also allows us to better understand their challenges and barriers to healthier behavior and be able to better address them.”
Dr. George commended the CPL for their public health interest and event coordination, expressing the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ anticipation to partner with CPL towards a healthier future in the region.
Hayley Matthews, West Indies captain and CPL Health and Wellness board member, said: “It is really exciting to be work-ing with CPL on their health and wellness initiatives and I am looking forward to joining them on the July 20 as we come together to celebrate the amazing sports clubs, healthy food and medical support we have here in Barbados.”
