The enchanting artistry of dance, acrobatic demonstrations, songs of peace and love, smiles and friendliness displayed by members of the Federation of World Love and Peace, (FOWL) were all for the Guyana Consul General of Guyana, Barbara Atherly, who was honored during a lavish celebration at the Wyndham Hotel Ballroom in Manhattan.

Atherly, who was the guest of honor to ring the bell of World Peace and Love on Wednesday, Sept. 20, received a warm welcome from members who invited the diplomat to write her wish for peace and love in the world before the bell ringing ceremony with President of FOWPAL Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze.

The call for Global Action awakening of conscience for a sustainable world was the theme for the 2017 World Leaders Summit of Love and Peace. The presentation which showcased the talents of Asian youths from around the world, brought warmth to CG Atherly and a Guyanese delegation which were entertained by aspects of love and peace.

“Love connects us all to work together, and to help one another,” are the words which highlights the aim of the organization and stated by Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze.

“Only when we emphasize humane moral ethics, can the world become peaceful, prosperous and harmonious,” he said.

After being presented with a certificate and medal, CG Atherly, on behalf of the government of Guyana enforced the values of the Federation of World Peace and Love, stating that the overarching purpose for sustainable development for the world is enshrined in “conscience”— that which distinguishes right from wrong, good from bad, and true from false, by formulating actions that promote genuine wishes for love and peace.

“This is most timely as it coincides with the theme of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly; Focusing on People, Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for all on a Sustainable Planet,” said the consul general.

Quoting the great Mahatma Gandhi, CG Atherly said, “Peace between countries must rest on the solid foundation of love between people. We join with President Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze in echoing this sentiment by identifying conscience as the core value of world citizenship that states when one’s conscience is awakened, their kindness is evoked.”

“As I ring this bell, I renew my promise and the promise of the government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana towards promoting universal love and peace,” said Atherly.

The Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL), established in the United States in 2000 by Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, has actively spread the idea of love and peace and promoted world peace through various means such as cultural exchanges and solemn ceremonies of ringing the Bell of World Peace and Love to unite more people sharing the same vision.

FOWPAL has held world summits of love and peace and invited leaders from various fields to ring the bell. The consolidated positive energy has inspired more people to work together for world peace for future generations.
