Guyana Women began their Women’s T20 Blaze on a winning note by beating Leeward Islands Women by seven wickets in the opener at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

The Leeward Islands won the toss and decided to bat first, but they were only able to get up to 88 for seven from their 20 overs.

The Leeward batters struggled against Guyana bowlers, led by off spinner Sheneta Grimmond, who grabbed three wickets.

Amanda Edwards topscored with 28 from 29 balls, while Qiana Joseph made 25 from 41 balls. Divya Saxena finished with an unbeaten 12 from 17 balls,

Grimmond dismissed Edwards and Joseph and also claimed the wicket of Jahzara Claxton for a duck to finish with 3-15 from her four overs.

Fellow off spinner Ashmini Munisar chipped in with 2-17.

Realeanna Grimmond then hit a run-a-ball 33 and captain Shemaine Campbelle scored an unbeaten 23 from 25 balls to carry Guyana to victory, finishing on 89 for three off 18.2 overs

After an opening stand of 42 between Realeanna and Katana Mentore, Guyana then lost three quick wickets to stumble to 65 for three in the 15th over.

But Campbelle, along with Cherry-Ann Fraser, who scored an unbeaten 11, carried their team across the finish line.
