Jersey City is hosting its first-ever fashion week—an exciting array of fashion-related events that began Sept. 21 and ends Sept. 28.
The week began with a kick-off reception hosted by Hudson County Executive Thomas A. DeGise, with Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy in attendance. Jersey City Fashion Week is celebrating emerging designers and showcasong Jersey City’s vibrant social scene and premiere venues, all while raising money for four worthy Jersey City charities: Dress for Success Hudson County, Boys and Girls Clubs of Hudson County, York Street Project and Stages.
Jersey City Fashion Week is presented by the Desha Lang Jackson Give to Live Foundation (Give to Live), which raises funds and promotes awareness for charitable causes through fashion, entertainment and sports-related events. Give to Live is a project of United Charitable Programs, a 501(c)(3) registered charity.
“Jersey City is an amazing city with incredible businesses, a wealth of talent and great places to showcase, and I thought now would be the perfect time to host a major fashion event here,” said Give to Live Founder Desha Jackson. “While the city has come a long way, many parts of the community are still experiencing hardship, and we felt it was critical that Jersey City Fashion Week addresses this need. We’re hoping people will come out to support this effort, which raises money for deserving charities.”
The week-long event includes numerous events across the city. Night of Lights on Saturday, Sept. 22, will see local businesses offering discounts. The Children’s Charity Fashion Show on Monday, Sept. 24 will feature youth from the Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County. The next day Old Navy will host “Find Your Style,” offering styling tips on-site to customers. On Wednesday, Sept. 26, the Tara Dowdell Group will host the Women of Influence fashion show, featuring some of New Jersey’s leaders in media, government and business; this show, styled by celebrity stylist Engie Hassan, will debut a line by Englewood boutique owner, Talia Young. Jersey City Fashion Week will close on Friday, Sept. 28 with the main fashion show, hosted by the cast of the Oxygen Network reality show, Jersey Couture, and featuring several emerging designers and local musical acts.
