Two-time 200 metres world champion Shericka Jackson won the 200m at the Diamond League meet in Xiamen with a dominant run of 21.87 seconds, breaking the meet record and missing the world-leading time by just 0.01 seconds.
Shaunae Miller-Uibo finished second in 22.04, while Anavia Battle was third in 22.29. Sha’Carri Richardson placed fourth with a season-best 22.38 seconds.
Elsewhere, American Olympic champion Masai Russell ran 12.14 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles, moving closer to the world record, while China’s Yan Ziyi produced the second-longest women’s javelin throw ever at 71.74m.
“I don’t know when (the world record) is going to come but I keep getting closer and closer. I’m blessed, I’m ecstatic and all the hard work is truly showing,” said Russell.
In other events, Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala won the men’s 100m in 9.94 seconds, holding off South African Gift Leotlela, who finished second. In the men’s 400m hurdles, Brazil’s Alison dos Santos defeated Karsten Warholm with a winning time of 46.72 seconds.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia’s Addisu Yihune surged late to win the men’s 5000m in 12:57.32 before collapsing at the finish line clutching his knee.
“It is good. It was all good,” Yihune said, confirming he was not seriously injured.
Three-time Olympic champion Ryan Crouser finished third in the shot put with a throw of 21.41m despite his ongoing elbow injury, competing in his first major event since winning last year’s World Championship.
Jamaica’s Rajindra Campbell claimed his first Diamond League victory with a winning throw of 22.34m.
