After two weather-related delays, the spirit of Easter finally arrived at Canarsie Park as families and children gathered for Sen. Roxanne Persaud’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Persaud is the Guyanese-born representative for the 19th Senate District in Brooklyn.

Marie Christine Delius, Persaud’s communications coordinator, told Caribbean Life on Tuesday that the event, initially postponed due to rain, was “a joyful celebration of community, springtime, and fun.

“Despite the wait, the turnout proved worth it,” she said. “Families enjoyed a range of pre-hunt activities, including face painting and arts and crafts, which brought smiles and laughter to kids of all ages.

“Once the Easter Egg Hunt began, the park was alive with excitement and festive cheer,” Delius added.

Persaud said: “We were thrilled to finally bring this event to life after the delays.

“It may have taken a little extra time, but it was Easter as long as we say it is—and the smiles on the children’s faces were worth it,” she added.

Delius said community partners included the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, EmblemHealth, TriniJam BK, Broadway Stages, David’s Optical, One Brooklyn Health, Agape, New York City District Council of Carpenters-CCA Metro, Millennium Development, Benjamin Pinczewski, and Classic Barbershop.

She thanked the NYPD 69th Precinct’s Community Affairs, Auxiliary, and Explorers, “dedicated volunteers”— Spring Office Interns Medgar Evers College, CUNY — and “my incredible SD-19 staff.”
