Southeast Queens has a new culinary experience in store for Queens with the grand opening of Nu Urban Cafe, a Manhattan styled gourmet eating experience.

Located at 188-36 Linden Blvd. near the corner of Farmers Blvd., the white table cloth fining dining restaurant uses fresh seasonal produce and all their sauces, marinades and dressings are made from scratch, including their fresh handmade desserts.

Senator Malcolm Smith and Assemblyman William Scarborough, chair of the Committee for Small Business, attended the grand opening to welcome the chef/owners to the community.

Two talented chefs envisioned a modern twist to urban cuisine using healthy choices in food and preparation. Renown Chef Alex Askew and Executive Chef Jeff Rodgers have more than 50 years of combined experience in the food industry.

Chef Rodgers is an award-winning chef who has been written up in the New York Times and had a full spread in Essence Magazine. He has worked with Chefs Anthony Bourdain, Bobby Flay and Rocco Dispirito as well as in top rated restaurants in Manhattan.

Chef Askew started cooking at the age of 14 professionally as a personal chef after taking a high school vocational work program. He later graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and his cooking styles encompass Cajun and Creole, Latin and Southern Cuisine. He has appeared on Good Morning America, CBS Early Morning Show and the Food Network.

The two chefs created an exciting menu featuring interesting dishes. Their menu was designed for new flavors and great taste in an affordable price range with small plates priced at $10 or less.

The menu tempts new diners with healthy and modern takes on classic cuisine, such as Shrimp and Stone Grits topped with Spicy Shrimp, Turkey Bacon and Scallions, “baked, not fried” Black Bean Cakes with Roast Red Pepper Corn Salsa and Lime Avocado Cream and Creole Spiced Shrimp on Sugar Cane with Rum Cocktail Sauce. Entrees include mouth watering Dr. Pepper BBQ Glazed Baby Back Ribs, NY Apple Smothered Pork Chops, Ancho Chili Crusted Salmon with Smoked Yellow Pepper Butter and Lobster Mac and Cheese Au Gratin.

Diners have compared their culinary experience to “eating at a Manhattan upper West Side cafe”.

The new eatery is open for Brunch on Saturdays and Sunday from 11:30 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Lunch is served Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 to 4:00 p.m. Dinner is served Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and untill 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
