After months of anticipation and around-the-clock work, Sandz NYC has officially reopened its doors, this time under the visionary leadership of serial entrepreneur Rondel Boodram. With a fusion of upscale dining, rich Caribbean culture, and a personal touch that only comes from true community roots, the revamped Sandz is poised to redefine nightlife and fine dining in Queens.
“I’ve been working since I was 13,” Boodram shared during an exclusive preview event. “This is my chance to finally create something that’s entirely mine — my vision, my style, my culture.”
Previously owned by two Jamaican proprietors whose business model ultimately fizzled, the venue became available at the right time. A friend tipped Boodram off, and within days, the entrepreneur known for his long-standing dealership, Real Ride Auto, and a past lounge called Passion, had locked in the deal.
The result? A stunning transformation that blends sleek modern design with Caribbean soul. “It’s an upscale Caribbean fusion restaurant,” Boodram explained. “When you bring a date or a friend, you’re going to be able to hear each other, taste incredible food, and enjoy the ambiance.”

Boodram, who hails from the countryside of Berbice, Guyana, has lived in New York for nearly four decades. His Guyanese pride is evident not just in the food, but in the heart of Sandz itself. The restaurant will serve a bold and flavorful menu combining Jamaican and West Indian culinary traditions, featuring dishes like snapper, oxtail, jerk chicken, and Guyanese-style fried rice.
“It’s a true fusion,” he said. “You’re going to taste the islands. It’s seafood heavy, flavor heavy—just real good vibes.”
But Sandz isn’t just about the food. It’s about the full experience. By day, expect a polished, upscale dining environment. By night? Think live bands, DJs, and a vibrant but safe lounge atmosphere. “Safety and service are my priorities,” Boodram emphasized. “You’re going to have fun, but you’re going to feel taken care of.”
A CFO by day, Boodram is no stranger to hustle. For the last 67 days, he has juggled full-time finance work and nightly renovations at Sandz. His goal? To bring Manhattan-level sophistication to Queens without losing the cultural authenticity.
“I want to bring Manhattan vibes to Queens,” he said. “And I want the West Indian community to be proud of what we’re doing here.”
That community, he said, is everything. From family support to the local NYPD, Boodram is intentional about building strong partnerships. “This is bigger than me. I’ve had a whole team behind this. While this is my vision, I could not have executed it without them.”
As for what’s next? Boodram smiles. “I want to retire, honestly,” he laughs. “But for now, I’m just focused on making an impact. I want to create a space that feels like home — but elevated. Beautiful. Safe. And full of flavor.”
