Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon took 3 wickets each as the West Indies suffered a 133-run defeat due to a poor batting display in the second Test at the National Cricket Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada.

The West Indies failed to chase 277 runs for victory, with their batters struggling against Australia’s bowling attack and were dismissed for 143 before tea on the fourth day.

Australia secured an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series following a 159-run victory in the first Test held in Barbados.

The third and final match between the West Indies and Australia will begin in Jamaica on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

West Indies Captain Roston Chase acknowledged the need for a stronger foundation from the top order batsmen to support the team.

“It was a case where we never got those partnerships going, especially up front with the new ball.

“I think that the new ball was the hardest challenge on the wicket, and we lost too many wickets up front and we’re asking the middle order and the lower order to do too much,” Chase said.

“So, I think it’s a case that if we can try to avoid losing so many wickets in the first ten to 15 overs, I think we’d have a better chance of scoring more runs.”

West Indies wrapped up Australia in quick time after they resumed on 221 for 7, with Shamar Joseph grabbing 2 wickets to help bowl them out for 243, but struggled in their run chase from the beginning, leading to a comfortable victory for Australia.

The Windies had the worst possible start when John Campbell was trapped lbw by Josh Hazlewood after facing just 2 balls without a run being scored.

Keacy Carty then edged Mitchell Starc behind after scoring 10, to leave the West Indies 15 for 2.

Kraigg Brathwaite’s miserable run of form continued into his 100th Test, with Beau Webster being caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey after scoring just seven, as the home team slumped to 29 for 3.

Brandon King looked in good shape as he moved to 14 off just 19 balls, but he was undone with a delivery from Pat Cummins that hit his off stump, as the West Indies went to lunch at 33 for 4.

Captain Roston Chase and Captain Shai Hope provided little hope during a 38-run partnership before Hope miscued a pull shot and was caught and bowled by Hazlewood for 17.

Shortly after, Chase was gone with a delivery from Starc to be lbw for the topscore of 34 and when Justin Greaves fell in similar fashion with the score at 99 for 7. At this time the match was essentially over.

Shamar Joseph, who made 24 and Alzarri Joseph, who scored 13, entertained the crowd a bit, but Lyon wrapped up the contest by grabbing the last 3 wickets to give the Aussies a comfortable victory.

Stare was the best bowler with 3-24, Lyon bagged 3-42 and Hazlewood took 2-33.
