Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson stormed past reigning champion Noah Lyles to claim victory in the men’s 100-meter event at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland.

Thompson blazed to victory in a meet-record-equalling 9.87 seconds. The American superstar Lyles settled for second in 9.90, with compatriot Kenny Bednarek taking third in a time of 9.96.

“It felt alright. My job is to get the job done,” said Thompson.

Lyles, despite the loss, found positives. “This is a great stepping stone. I needed to see a sub-ten, needed to beat top guys. Taking out 9.7, 9.8 runners builds confidence for Tokyo.”

The win matched the 9.87 meet record shared by Americans Ronnie Baker and Fred Kerley, though it fell short of Thompson’s world-leading 9.75 at June’s Jamaican trials, the sixth-fastest time in history.

Keshorn grabs silver with 82.54m throw

Trinidad & Tobago Olympic medallist Keshorn Walcott threw to silver in the men’s javelin event at the Wanda Diamond League.

Walcott launched the spear 82.54 meters to finish just over a metre behind the gold medallist and former world champion Julius Yego of Kenya.

Republic of Moldova’s Andrian Mardare came in third with his throw of 82.38m, while Polish pair David Wegner (81.19m) and Cyprian Mrzyglod (81.10m) rounded off the top five respectively.

After his performance, Walcott shared a short clip of his silver-earning throw to his Instagram.

He captioned the video saying, “A bit too much rotation in the throws, but happy my body’s finally loosening up.”

For 2025, Walcott’s best throw came at the Doha Meeting in Doha, where he threw the spear at 84.65m.
