Saint Lucia’s Olympic champion Julien Alfred celebrated her 25th birthday with a golden performance, winning the women’s 100m event at the Diamond League Bislett Games in Norway.
Alfred sprinted to a 10.76-second finish under wind-aided conditions to comfortably beat Britain’s Amy Hunt, who placed second in 10.99 seconds, while New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs took bronze with a time of 11.03 seconds.
Alfred said after the race that she was pleased with her performance and satisfied with the result, adding another major win to her growing international career.
“I am healthy, and I am happy to get the win here. I would say I am trusting myself a lot more. And I am having so much more fun.”
“As long as I come in and finish healthy, I am happy about it. I worked very hard to get to this point in my life. Just being here, racing amongst the best athletes in the world, like I said, I am appreciating every chance I get to run,” Alfred said.
“I love the competitiveness in the 100m right now. It keeps me on my toes to go out there and compete and be at my best every single time I line up, so I have no complaints right now.”
It was a standout week for Saint Lucia’s sprint queen Alfred, as she secured her second Diamond League gold medal in less than a week.
After triumphing in the 200m at the Rome Diamond League, she followed up with another impressive victory in the 100m at the Bislett Games in Norway.
The back-to-back wins highlight her consistency and growing confidence this season, as she continues to establish herself as one of the leading sprinters in world athletics.
