The Bajan men and women went to Guyana, took on and beat all comers and romped on to become conquering champions in the 3X3 IBF Antilles Championship and took home the male and female titles in this regional basketball tournament.
Playing at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall Saturday the Barbadians showed great adaptation to the under-18 street basketball format, featuring three-on-three players on a half-court, by going undefeated through the entire tournament and displaced defending champions Martinique to earn the twin titles of kings and queens.
Barbados’ women beat the ladies from Martinique 8-7 in the final, while the Bajan men cruised past the Martinique males 12-8 in that last game.
Having beaten all before them, the Bajans also laid claim to both MVP trophies with Alesha Squires earning the accolade for females and Kiserian Adams command the male top spot.
Now in its second year the 2018 tournament saw competition among seven countries hailing from across the Lesser Antilles, Caribbean.
“The first year in St. Lucia we did not do well but this year we unlocked our confidence and had a lot more time to work on our game,” MVP Adams said.
