Brooklyn Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte said she remained committed to New York City public schools “so that all children receive an equitable education.”

In her New Year’s message to constituents, Bichotte, the first Haitian American from New York City to be elected to the State Assembly, thanked residents for their support in her re-election to the 42nd Assembly District in Brooklyn in November. The district covers Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood and Ditmas Park.

She also commended residents for “contributing to my success in addressing critical issues these past two years.”

In 2017, she said she will be committed to “our public colleges by making community college tuition free.

“In addition, I will continue to advocate for affordable housing by continuing to drive the campaign for stronger rent laws, champion criminal justice reforms like raising the age of criminal responsibility for minors and the Fair Chance Act, and push for job creation initiatives and for economic opportunities for Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs) and small businesses,” she said.

“Lastly, I will take the necessary steps to ensure seamless healthcare in the event that the Affordable Healthcare Act is appealed,” she added.

“Thank you for allowing me to continue to do the people’s work,” Bichotte continued. “I will continue to work to my best ability.”

As the current Assembly Member and District Leader, Bichotte said she has been an outspoken advocate on issues concerning immigration; unemployment; education reform; health care access; senior citizen centers; affordable housing; and women’s and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) rights; “as well as other issues affecting the quality of life in the community.”

Bichotte welcomed the community to hear her Annual State of the District Address on Thurs., Feb. 9, at 6 pm, at Brooklyn College, Student Union Building, 2900 Bedford Ave. at Campus Road.

“The State of the District Address is an opportunity for the residents of the 42nd Assembly District to hear about the status of the affairs of the district,” Bichotte said.
