Brooklyn church celebrates first anniversary

The Brooklyn Community Church, where the Rev. Dr. Fred Lucas is founder and senior pastor, presented its first Anniversary Gospel Benefit Concert on Friday, Oct. 7.

The concert, chaired by Deacon Veronica Price, is only one component of the Church’s first anniversary celebration that began on Sunday, Sept. 25 and will culminate on Sunday, Oct. 30, with the concert and services held at Berean Baptist Church, at 1635 Dr. Hylton L. James Blvd. (at Bergen Street and Rochester Avenue) where Rev. Dr. Arlee Griffin, Jr., serves as pastor.

The concert featured vocals by community notables, including James Hill and the Utopia Haven Ensemble, Sheenequa Baez, Joseph Brown, Gayle Turner, Mighty Men of God, Roberta Ross (who delighted the worshippers, even with a cold, sore throat and a little sniffle) and, of course, The Brooklyn Community Church Choir under the direction of Michele White.

Cher’ae Ward covered not only the dance but the mime segment of the program as well. Rev. Maurice Douglas, B.C.C. Pastor for Outreach Ministries was an excellent Master of Ceremonies.

The BCC 1st Church Anniversary Celebration will continue on Tuesdays, Oct. 25 with 7:00 p.m. Super Tuesday Worship Services held at Restoration Plaza at 1368 Fulton Street, 3rd Floor, Brooklyn, N.Y.

On Sunday, Oct. 23 and 30, guest anniversary preachers will be Rev. Dr. Robert Waterman of Antioch Baptist Church in Brooklyn, Rev. Gilbert Pickett of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Corona, and Rev. Dr. Robert Perry of Union Baptist Church in Stamford, Ct. All B.C.C. Sunday services are held at Berean Baptist Church.
