The “High Tea” event which is expected to attract ladies in beautiful hats, and men in debonair ensemble at the 331 Hawthorne St. venue, will bring in much needed funds for the group to carry on its important work that continues to help hundreds of Guyanese.
President of HEROC, Lorna Welshman-Neblett is calling on all to support the fundraiser that will give patrons the opportunity to win prizes, while donating to this worthy cause.
Decorated tables to showcase fancy clothes, center pieces, and tea sets, will vie in the best table setting category, while best Fashion Hat and getup will be judged in another category.
Welshman-Neblett noted, that the organization’s far reaching initiatives that included a Look Good Feel Better Session for 35 Cancer survivors and patients at the headquarters of the Giving Hope Foundation, put a smile on the faces of the citizens.
Nurse Desrene Wallerson of New York, presented how to conduct breast checks and identify early signs and unusual variations via a Power Point presentation.
Dr. Isaac Fordyce presented a detailed session on Nutrition that was very beneficial for everyone, said Welshman Neblett.
Additionally, Nurse Fraser traveled to Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice where he presented a program on Sickle Cell. Mr. Fraser has completed some extensive research and studies in this area and continues to educate the community in his hometown. Dr. Isaac Fordyce accompanied him as part of the weeks-long mission, where HEROC members volunteered to ensure all services were administered to aid citizens.
Welshman-Neblett said much more work is needed to end late stage cancer detection. “We have a lot of work to do here and most importantly we have a great deal to do in terms of educating people. We have to help people to understand what signs they should look for.”
“But given the fact that a great deal of attention is given to cancer during the month of October, two organizations have been collaborating to raise awareness,” according to Welshman-Neblett.
The not-for-profit continues to engage the community via its Strides for Breast Cancer Walk, both in Brooklyn and Georgetown, Guyana, where wigs, prosthetic bras, medical supplies, support and medical assistance are donated.
