Former Jamaica Prime Minister Bruce Golding will be the presenter at the annual CIN Lecture Series in New York at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
The founder and first president of the National Democratic Movement, Golding led the Jamaica Labour Party to victory in 2007 after the NDM served for 19 years.
Mr. Golding was elected to the Jamaica Parliament at age 24, and was elected Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party in 2005. He led the Jamaica Labour Party to victory in 2007 after the NDM remained in the opposition served for 19 years.
In 2007, Goldoing became Jamaica’s eighth prime minister and served for four years before his resignation and retirement in 2011.
Considered by many as one of Jamaica’s finest orators and greatest political leaders,
Bruce Golding’s topic for this year’s Lecture Series will be “Jamaica’s Challenges, Opportunities and Imperatives.”
For the past eight years, the list of CIN presenters has imcluded: Robert Hill, who spoke on Marcus Garvey; Rex Nettleford, whose topic was “The Caribbean Diversity: A Defining Point in the History of the Americas,” Edward Seaga, who spoke on “The Folk Root of Jamaican Cultural Identity”; P.J. Patterson who addressed “The Importance of the Caribbean Diaspora to Economic Development”; Lowell Hawthorne, whose topic was “The Importance of Entrepreneurship and its Contribution to Wealth Creation,” and Ronnie Thwaites, who spoke on “The agony of change and the prospect of a new beginning in Jamaica”; Greg Christie, who spoke on “The Fight to Secure Integrity, Transparency and Accountability in the Award of Government Contracts in Jamaica” and in 2012 Douglas Orane, who spoke on “The Key to Prosperity in Jamaica.”
The CIN Lecture Series has become one of the premier Caribbean events in New York, and attracts a large cross-section of diplomats, media, business and religious leaders, college professors and other members of the Caribbean community. Each year, the lectures series has attracted a capacity audience of 600 people to the Schomburg Center, and the presentations are subsequently aired on CIN-TV, reaching more than two million Caribbean-Americans in New York,New Jersey and Connecticut.
