Bermuda, Bonaire and the Bahamas emerged victorious on Tuesday in Group A of the first matches of the 2022 CONCACAF Men’s Under-17 Championship Qualifiers (CMU17Q) at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fl.

According to CONCACAF, goals from Reuben Edgecombe (32’) and Kai Perez (63’) for the Bahamas overcame a Jaheim Lake (30’) goal for Saint Martin in a 2-1 victory for Bahamas.

CONCACAF said Bonaire “managed to rally” from a 2-1 second half deficit to top Guyana 4-2.

Gerry Burnette (40’) gave Guyana a 1-0 lead, but then 11 minutes later had an own goal to make it 1-1, CONCACAF said.

It said the Golden Jaguars were back ahead 2-1 through Matrim Martin (52’), only for Bonaire to respond with three straight goals from Mervin Dishmey (58’), Freadyen Michiel (70’) and Rhiordan Piar (88’).

“The morning slate ended with a commanding 4-0 win for Bermuda versus British Virgin Islands,” CONCACAF said.

It said Jannis Roberts (9’), Hayden Dill (31’), Jaidyn Robinson (45+3’) and Chance Eve (75’) scored for the Gombey Warriors.

CONCACAF said more action was expected on Wednesday both at the IMG Academy and the Estadio Nacional in Managua, Nicaragua.

Group B was expected to kick off at the IMG Academy, with Aruba taking on Martinique, and Puerto Rico facing the US Virgin Islands (USVI).

It would be the first ever CMU17Q meetings between Aruba and Martinique, and Puerto Rico and USVI.

Group D at the Estadio Nacional was expected to feature Antigua and Barbuda squaring off with Belize, followed by host nation Nicaragua dueling with the Turks and Caicos Islands.

CONCACAF said Antigua and Barbuda faced Belize in CMU17Q in 2019, with Antigua and Barbuda claiming a 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile, it would be the first CMU17Q match-up between Nicaragua and the Turks and Caicos Islands, CONCACAF said.
