Gayle to face disciplinary committee

The West Indies disciplinary committee has agreed to complete their hearing on West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle following the conclusion of the ICC World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The hearing relates to Gayle’s public reaction to the 2015 Cricket World Cup squad which saw the exclusion of all-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard.

WICB President Dave Cameron indicated that Gayle requested the hearing be deferred following the WICB requesting Gayle’s response to the disciplinary committee weeks before the start of the tournament.

Only recently, Gayle raised the possibility of retiring from Test cricket if his fragile back cannot cope with the increasing workload in a crammed cricket calendar.

Despite previous comments on the format, Gayle made it clear that he was still passionate about playing Tests but said that he would assess his future immediately after the World Cup, when he meets with the WICB officials.
