This year’s Schneps Media/ Caribbean Life Impact Awards Honoree Jordana Persad and her team are currently back at it again with a new “Don’t Pass the Peppa Sauce” production. This time it is a semi-modern Caribbean twist on William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”

“Shakespeare is already dramatic. Now imagine Romeo and Juliet but if they were Caribbean. Bring on the drama!” said Creator, Actress, Writer, and Producer Persad.

The team at Don’t Pass the Peppa Sauce (DPTPS) is driven by creating and fostering an environment of inclusion and opportunity for Caribbean creatives.

“DPTPS is all about inclusion and representation of Caribbean Actors on stage and film. This show gives us a platform for our culture and skills to be seen and heard,” said Persad.

Seeing Rihanna perform at the 2023 Superbowl already felt like a huge win for the Caribbean culture, but I am trying to represent another artistic angle. These productions mean a lot to me as I don’t see much of my culture in film and stage and what better city in the world to display my culture in than NYC. Here in New York City, we have the West Indian Day Parade which takes place every Labor Day and consist of One to Three Million attendees. That alone shows how much Caribbean people have a huge presence in New York, but I am trying to make us a not only a huge presence but a huge influence on the big screen and Broadway one show at a time, ” said Persad.

After five sold out shows, the DPTPS team, primarily a Caribbean Sketch Comedy Show will be acting in their very first playwright featuring actors from several Caribbean islands including Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Jamaica.

Every show is more like an experience with food from the Caribbean, music, island cocktails, flags and some local vendors featuring all things Caribbean.

The show dates are April 20, 21 & April 29, 2023. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. followed by 9:30 p.m. showtime at the Tank Theatre, 312 West 36th St., 1st Floor New York, NY.
