Living History: A Brooklyn Children’s Museum salute

Come help us celebrate the fabulous month of February featuring Black History Month: Living History, Mid-Winter Recess (Saturday, Feb. 18 – Sun., Feb. 26) and the continuation of our W.O.R.D. UP! Words of Real Distinction, reading series. All Black History Month are included with Museum admission.

During Black History Month (BHM) visitors can watch history come alive while exploring the contributions of the amazing men and women who have shaped our lives and the world.

Highlights of the month include the Play Lab Workshop Series: Marvelous Mardi Gras!, Madame C.J. Walker’s Journey Around the World, a W.O.R.D. UP! reading and beauty tips with Hollis Barclay (Hibiscus Health & Wellness Center); the first annual “Circle of Love” Dads & Daughters Ball!, Anansi the African Spider Man, Living the Legacy: Black History Jeopardy, 3, 2, 1… Blast off! featuring astronaut Mae Jamison and Wonder Why Workshop Series: Sink or Float featuring master diver, Carl Brashear.

Join us for an interactive performance for young people. Children will enact a play about an escape led by Harriet Tubman and Thomas Garrett through the Underground Railroad. Presenters Devorah Tarrow and Barbara McClung will guide this engaging journey using Aesthetic Realism.

Wonder Why Workshop Series: Sink or Float

Exploring underwater is all about “flinking” – neither floating nor sinking, just hovering in the middle of the water. Learn about Carl Brashear, the first African American Master Diver, then make your own toy scuba flinker to experiment with at home.
