Grenada for the win. Grenadian artist Mr. Killa brings the soca energy to Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.

According to Marie Driven, the Haitian American, Brooklyn-based entertainment publicist, PeacockTV and Executive producer, Glenda Cox wanted a “unique sound created from scratch for the show.”

So, Cox reached out to Mr. Killa, the co-founder of Rebel 1 Entertainment, “a 360 entertainment company providing a full array of services, including production, publishing and distribution,” said Driven, managing partner of PlaybookMG.

“Mr. Killa is a versatile soca singer and an exceptional entertainer,” she said. “His unique sound incorporates elements of EDM, dancehall and other genres while remaining authentic in Soca,” she said. “Mr. Killa never fails to deliver his assignments; he created the theme song, ‘Housewives in the Island Babay’ for Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.

“This opportunity is significant for the Caribbean culture,” Driven added. “Mr Killa and his team have stepped into a space that hasn’t been easy for most Caribbean genres, especially soca.”

In the past two months, Caribbean music has been embraced by the mainstream, Driven said.

She said Cardi B produced a dancehall-themed birthday party and booked artists such as Mr. Vegas, Spice, Shenseea and Ding Dong, among others.

A week later, Driven said VERZUZ hosted a battle with DJ Super Cat, Kranium, Dexta Daps, Konshens, Baby Cham, Barrington Levy and Teejay Uptop Boss, moderated by Wyclef Jean.

“Moments like those are needed for the culture (Caribbean),” Driven said.
