In opening the batting, West Indies off-spinner Sunil Narine blasted a 17-ball 50 in helping Kolkata Knight Riders to triumph in their season opener Sunday against Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After they were sent in first to bat, Royal Challengers posted 176-6 in 20 overs, with Narine setting the pace, with three huge sixes in his masterful display.

Narine was called again for his suspect bowling action in the recently-concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Royal Challengers Bangalore ended just two runs short of their 178 target, losing seven wickets in the process.

AB de Villiers topscored for Royal Challengers with 44.

Scores: Kolkata Knight Riders 177- 6 (Narine 50, Karthik 35, Woakes 3-36); Royal Challengers Bangalore 176-7 (De Villiers 44, McCullum 43, Rana 2-11).
