Last Saturday saw an evening of glitz and glamor when Barbados Governor General, Dame Sandra Mason, placed on nine outstanding Barbadians insignias representing their recognition by the Queen of England in the 2018 New Year Honors list.

The swanky ceremony on the lawns of Government House, Dame Sandra’s official residence, was attended by prominent citizens, and others representing a cross-section of Barbadian life along with members of the diplomatic corps.

The honors were considered just social awards for contributions in a variety of lifelong pursuits by these citizens in areas, such as the labour movement, the public sector, the clergy and the hospitality industry.

The recipients were, in the category of Order Of The British Empire, Commander Of The Order Of The British Empire (CBE), Charles Livingstone Smith for service to the Public Service; Shirley Irene Farnum for service to the Public Service; and Reverend Dr. Orlando Devere Seale for contribution to religious education.

In the category of Officer Of The Order Of The British Empire (OBE), Linda Patricia Brooks for contribution to the labor movement; Carlton O’Brian Hinds for contribution to the catering industry; and Cedric Harcourt Murrell for contribution to the labor movement.

In the category of Member Of The Order Of The British Empire (MBE), Velmo Cladius Cadogan for long service to the Barbados Fire Service; Alvin Ellwood Carter for services to education; and Clifford Adelbert Clarke for long service to the Barbados Fire Service.
