The West Indies Emerging Players won the regional Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 cricket title with a resounding victory over the Leeward Hurricanes at the Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad on Sunday, Dec, 1.

Chasing 294 runs for victory after T&7’s Leonard Julien struck 83 for the Emerging Players but the Leewards could only manage 88 all out in 4.6 overs losing the match by 205 runs to claim their first title.

Chasing 294 was always going to be an uphill task as the Leewards needed to get a good start and this just did not happen.

They lost wickets in clusters at the top and when Captain Jamar Hamilton failed to repeat his heroics of the semi-finals, it was all over for the Leewards.

The bowling hero was captain and Man of the Match Yannic Cariah, who grabbed 3 for 8 with his leg-spin, while Kevin Sinclair the other spinner took 4 for 20.

The Leewards defeated champion T&T Red Force, two days earlier at the same venue to get into the finals.

The young Emerging Players made their debut in the Super 50 competition.
