It’s a good deed for the kids.

The Consulate General of Saint Lucia in New York recently launched a toy drive for young children. The Vice Consul Jeremiah Hyacinth and other officials celebrated the introduction of “One Toy Equals One Smile,” at the Saint Lucia House in Brooklyn last week, which will provide various toys for children in need for the holidays.

“It’s very simple to make a difference in the life of less fortunate children, especially around Christmas, so we are collecting toys and book bags that will be handed over for them,” said Hyacinth.

The consulate is seeking donations of new and wrapped toys for children and teens who are 14 and under, added Hyacinth. The drive will be ongoing until Nov. 27.

St. Lucia’s Ambassador to the Caribbean Community Elma Gene Isaac in supporting the toy drive noted the impact of giving back to those in need.

“All of us who can make a positive difference should come forward,” she said. “One moment of happiness for a child can be replicated. One child sharing his happiness equals one positive encounter in the home, and on the streets.”

All the toys will be shipped to the National Community Foundation (NCF) in St. Lucia for distribution to families for the holiday season. Since 2002, the NCF’s goal has been helping and assisting disadvantaged children and families with various humanitarian services.
