West Indies cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards is throwing his support for former teammate Desmond Haynes to become the new head coach of the West Indies team.

Haynes recently indicated he wanted to succeed Stuart Law, who will he leaving the position at the end of the year to join the English Middlesex’s start- just as the West Indies is gearing up for next’ years Cricket World Cup in England.

Sir Viv said the players squandered beautiful positions because they have lacked someone with a solid base of success and winning.

“Desmond has been there, done that. He knows how to win!” he said.

Sir Viv, who is widely considered one of the game’s best, vouched for local visionaries taking the helm because he felt foreign eyes didn’t understand the region’s players.

“I would love to see a Caribbean person in that position. We have had the overseas coaches, but I have not seen the benefit of that as yet, the 66 year-old former West Indies captain said.

Among Law’s predecessors were fellow Australians, Bennet King and John Dyson.

With Jimmy Adams as the current Director of Cricket and Curtly Ambrose having been on staff recently, Sir Viv wants more Caribbean experience, even throwing his hat for whatever role Cricket West Indies (CWI) Board deemed fit for him.
