On Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, the Lenox Road Block Association Alliance (LRBAA) hosted ‘Lights on Lenox,’ the first community holiday tree lighting on Lenox Road, and the beginning of what we hope to make an annual event.
Although it snowed heavily it did not stop the LRBAA from staging the event for the approximately 50 community residents, who turned out to cheer and sing-along with youth performers of the Lenox Christian Youth Chorus. Turkeys, toys and holiday themed gift baskets were given out to those who braved the cold.
Before lighting the tree, which is on display into January 2014 on the premises of 270 Lenox Rd., the organizers took the opportunity to recognize some of its building caretakers/’supers’ for an outstanding job in caring for the residential spaces and addressing the concerns of neighbors. Jean Celestine, superintendent of 300 Lenox Rd. and Maritza Acosta, superintendent of 50 Lenox Rd. were present to accept certificates of recognition and holiday turkeys, compliments of Haitian American Community Coalition.
