Brooklyn Sen. Roxanne J. Persaud has honored Trinidadian-born New York Police Department (NYPD) Detective Tricia Navarro-Caraballo with New York State Senate 2023 Veterans’ Hall of Fame Award.

Persaud, the Guyanese-born representative for the 19th Senate District in Brooklyn, said the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame was created “to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.

“Their meritorious service to our nation deserves the special recognition that only a Hall of Fame can provide as a fitting expression of our gratitude and admiration,” she said.

Persaud, who visited NYPD’s 63rd Precinct on Nov. 30, presented the NYS Senate 2023 Veterans’ Hall of Fame Award to Det. Navarro–Caraballo, a Neighborhood Coordination Officer (NCO) and a resident of Senate District 19.

“I am delighted to honor Detective Tricia Navarro–Caraballo with the 2023 Veterans’ Hall of Fame Award,” Persaud told Caribbean Life on Thursday.

“Det. Navarro-Caraballo has established an impressive record of service during her time in the Marine Corp and continues the work at the NYPD to build a bridge between the department and the community at large,” she added.

Det. Navarro-Caraballo – who migrated from Trinidad and Tobago, when she was nine years old and attended Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in Manhattan – said her dream, since “a young child immigrating from Trinidad and Tobago was to serve in the United States Marine Corps and to join the New York Police Department.”

“As simple as it may seem, I am living my dream,” she told Caribbean Life. “I feel blessed, grateful, humbled and honored to be selected, and inducted to NYS Veterans Hall of Fame,” she said. “I am dedicated to serving my country in any way possible.”

Det. Navarro-Caraballo recalled that, as a youngster growing up in Brooklyn, her interest to join the Marines was sparked by their uniform and slogan: “The Few. The Proud. The Marines.”

She said she served the Marines for 11 years, including a deployment to Iraq in 2008.

Det. Navarro-Caraballo’s personal slogan for life is: “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.”

“Congratulations to Det. Tricia Navarro-Caraballo and thank you for your service,” Sen. Persaud said.
